How To Update Serial Number In Bios Lenovo T420

1 Jan 2000admin

Not exactly true. Lenovo System Update also verifies your system with that serial number and if it is not changed you cannot use system update. I have another question. My thinkpad t61 has still warranty and was sent in because the main board crashed December 2009.

I got it back everything fine so far, but the repair service did not update the bios, so I cannot use the system update anymore. Lenovos support hotline tells me that I have to send it in again to fix the issue. I think it is not fair, that I have to pay (lost time because of sending it in for about 2 weeks), for obviously their mistake. Anybody an idea what I can do?

Regards Stephan Nielsen. I called (again) and talked to two different persons for about an hour (actually 3, but one hang up after 10 seconds or lost connection, whatever). They tell me it cannot be escalated because it is not possible. They reject my customer satisfaction request.

The problem seems to be that the thinkpad was sent in to the norwegian repair center because i was living for 5 month in norway. I realized the problem when i was back in germany, so i am trying to fix the issue with the german support hotline.

But it seems the global company lenovo or ibm (who i think is still responsible for the support?) is not so global at all. The first guy told me that i should call the norwegian support hotline and complain about the repair center there. The only option the german support center has to offer is that i can send it in again because the mistake is not caused by the german repair center. Kid pix deluxe 4 for schools free download full version. That is also why they cannot except the customer satisfaction escalation he told me. The second guy told me that it is not possible to escalate the case because there is no reason for it. I have no right to complain because i do not want to accept the warranty service they are offering me (sending it in). The only option he offered me is that they would come and fetch the laptop for the repair which might be a little bit faster than sending it.

(Fix) Fixed an issue where the BIOS Update Utility failed to update the BIOS when DEP (Data Execute Prevention) was enabled. UEFI: 1.33 / ECP: 1.10 - (New) Disabled keyboarding while the lid was closed to avoid unexpected key input when the computer was held with the lid closed.

Although i told him that i will use the warranty service but only want to complain how the service was handled it was still not possible to record the complain. He told me that i would get a questionnaire after the repair is handled (sth i did not get the last 2 times the laptop was in for repair). Now i know, why lenovo has such a high customer satisfaction rate. They just do not record complaints. (i know that's not true all the time but it fits my case.) well, after this i do not know if i should consider lenovo for my next laptop, although i am very satisfied with my thinkpad except all the repairs (harddrive, cooler, battery, mainboard, cooler again) i had in three years but i still hope that my one is just a real lemon. But thanks for the advice although it was not successfull.

• Download ThinkPad Hardware Maintenance Diskette (HMD). I have 1.83 attached here. You can certainly find other versions on the Internet somewhere. • DO NOT use windows 10!!

I've only tried windows 10 & 7, both 64 bit. Windows 7 worked with all my flash drives. But the application will not find your USB stick on windows 10. • Unzip the TP HMD. Use 'usbfmtpw.exe' to make a bootable HMD USB.

If it says 'Error: Drive not found to format', then it's very likely it can't run on your OS (Windows 10 for instance). Otherwise, you will see a format window.

Make sure it's your flash drive. Don't worry about the size. You can always format it in windows, and the flash drive will turn back to normal. • Boot your Thinkpad with the USB stick you just made. You might need to hit 'F12' to open the boot options to choose it. You will see a blue screen with some descriptions of the tool.

• Choose option 1, '1. ' or something like that. I can't remember now, but it's pretty straightforward once you are at this step. • Follow the instructions. It's pretty easy. You will need to input the Model Type and SN together, with '1S' at the beginning. Say, model type 1234CTO, SN 56789AB, you will need to input '1S1234CTO56789AB'.

It may vary depending on your machine. • Then simply reboot.
